1.not a large percentage of the voting population was voting. The debates always bring more attention to the candidates and their campaigns, they can also make or break a candidate depending on their apperance and what the might blurt out during a debate.
2. because the effects on the polls arent as immediate before the primaries than they are during the time that most of the people will be voting.

6. if no one expects him to do well, and he does, then people will be surprised and might even be more inclined to vote for him.
7. people are more likely to adopt the viewpoints of the media instead of forming their own to fit in or seem more informed
8. Depending on which news station you use, you will sway towards one candidate. they found that NBC viewers thought that Bush won while the people who watched the debate alone or with CNN commentary thought that Kerry won.
